Candidates for the JEE Main 2019 currently have no idea about the cut-off marks to be released by the National Test Agency (NTA). Through analysis performed, this article discusses potential cut-off marks for the exam
Factors that will affect the JEE Main Cut-off for 2019
1. How Difficult are the Question Papers?
According to students’ feedback who appeared in January and April session, the level of difficulty for JEE Main Question Paper 2019 is same as previous years.
2. How many Candidates applied for the exam?
As many may know, the higher the number of candidates, the higher the cut-off and vice versa. Fortunately, the number of candidates for the exam has decreased by 5-8% as compared to last year. As such, we can expect a decrease in JEE Main cut off marks due to relatively less competition.
3. EWS Quota Factor
To implement the newly introduced 10 percent quota for students belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Category, approximately 25 per cent seats will be added to ensure that the reservation does not disturb the existing quota for SC, ST and other categories. Because of this decision, the number of eligible candidates has been increased to 2, 45, 000. Last year, only 2.24 lakh candidates were eligible to appear for the next stage i.e., JEE Advanced. Therefore, due to increase in the number of candidates to be shortlisted for JEE Advanced, the cutoff marks of JEE Main can be low in comparison with last year.
